From Curiosity to Publication
How the recognized barriers confronting medical students and young researchers inspired the creation of an open, supportive, and methodologically rigorous academic platform.
As medical students and clinical trainees entering the world of scientific research, we confronted profound and systemic hurdles. Curiosity was everywhere—in clinical wards, classrooms, and community health centers. Sincere scientific questions were being asked, and valid observations were being documented.
However, the pathway to turning those clinical observations into peer-reviewed publication was deeply discouraging. Commercial academic publishers demanded exorbitant author fees often exceeding thousands of dollars. Editorial rejection notices were curt and offered no constructive critique. Experienced methodological mentorship was concentrated in select elite centers, leaving the vast majority of aspiring researchers without guidance.
We realized that rather than merely accepting these barriers, we had a responsibility to build an alternative. Annals of Curiosity was founded as a dedicated academic sanctuary—a place where early-career researchers, clinicians, and students could receive structured methodological mentorship, participate in double-blind peer review, and publish their findings under open-access principles.
What began as a localized collaborative writing group has since matured into an international scholarly publishing and research institution. Today, Annals of Curiosity encompasses:
From our editorial headquarters in Punjab, Pakistan to collaborating researchers across the globe, Annals of Curiosity remains governed by one unwavering conviction: that scientific progress must remain accessible, ethical, and open to all who seek knowledge.
